Why the NFL has changed its Twitter policy

NFL fans will have to use Twitter to communicate with police and firefighters, the league announced on Monday.

The NFL and its players’ union have been working to get Twitter users to change their policies to allow police and firefighter officials to send out text messages to one another about an incident, but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement until a judge blocked the move.

The NFL has been working for more than a year on a new policy for its players, which would allow police to use their Twitter accounts to reach out to the public and notify the public of an emergency.

Fire officials are allowed to tweet to the National Guard, fire department, or other federal or state agencies, and fire officials are not allowed to send text messages or images.
